Preparing Your Items

Consignors must tag and price all of their own items. Instructions on how to tag your items are given below. Each consignor tags his or her items the same way. This insures that Rubber Ducky Kids will be an organized, easy-to-shop consignment sale. We appreciate your attention to details as you prepare your items.

Making your tags
Please use the Tagging Template that can be downloaded from our Documents\Forms Page. You can get copies made by the sheet at Staples or you can print them off on your computer.  Please select “landscape” and “fit to page” before printing. Copy your tags on heavy-duty card stock paper.  You can find card stock paper at your local Wal-Mart and Target. Target sells the 50 sheets per pack for $4.33.

Tags must be printed on card stock paper. This ensures that the tags will not rip as buyers are browsing through items. (We cannot sell items with lost tags because we will not be able to associate a consignor number to them). Tags should be printed on WHITE (not tan or beige) or bright COLORED paper. The color of the paper denotes your donation status. WHITE tags means you agree to your items going ½ price during the last 2 hours of the sale on Saturday.  If WHITE tagged items do not sell, it means that you do not want them back and they will be donated. COLORED tags mean you want your items back.

WHITE TAGS
  • White tagged items will be offered at 1/2 price during the last Hour and a Half of the sale on Saturday.
  • Designates an item that you desire to be DONATED TO CHARITY if it does not sell.
  • NEW THIS SEASON - If you would like to have your unsold 1/2 priced item returned to you, instead of being donated, please mark the back of your white tag with a large "X" using a dark marker. See illustration below.

COLORED TAGS
  • Designates items that YOU WILL BE PICKING UP if they do not sell
  • These items will be PICKED UP on Saturday after the sale concludes (between 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm).  Any items not picked up by 5:30 pm will be donated to charity.
Every item must be properly labeled with a tag. Tags must be attached to the right front of garments with a safety pin or tagging gun. Tagging guns can be purchased on EBAY for less than $4.00.  If the fabric is delicate it is OK to pin the card to the garment tag or to the hanger. On non-hanging items, the tag should be securely taped (packaging tape please). Fill out each tag in the following manner.

DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO PLACE THE TAGS ON YOUR ITEMS
  • Seller # number in the upper left corner box - We will assign a consignor number when you contact us. See  Register to Consign  or  Contact Us .
  • Size in upper right corner.
  • Circle Gender: B (Boy) G (Girl) U (Unisex)
  • Description of item in the center.
  • Price on top and bottom of tag.  Prices must be in $.50 increments. You may group smaller items together.

Tagging Clothing
  • The better the clothes look the better they sell.   Please be sure that your clothes are current,       freshly washed, on hangers, and free of stains, broken zippers, tears and signs of wear.
  • All clothing should be placed on hangers with the hook facing left like a question mark (?). Child sized plastic coated hangers can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Target, etc. You can also check out freecycle.com or for leftovers at some of your local stores.  Old Navy disposes their hangers at the end of the day.
  • When hanging an outfit that includes pants or a skirt, hang the pants or skirt with the shirt so that they can both be easily seen. Pin the two together.
  • All clothing items must be on hangers so that they can be displayed. Consider grouping 2-3 onesies together on hangers. They have a better chance of selling that way.
  • If you have items you want to sell together, you have two options: hang one on the hanger and pin the shoulders of the others to the one on the hanger with the pins grasping the hanger as well; OR put each item on its own hanger and rubber-band the hangers together. Please do not group items together if they are not the same size.
  • Attach the tag with a safety pin or tagging gun on the garment tag or near the upper right side of the garment as shown in the picture below.

Tagging Shoes
  • Please bring only lightly worn and clean shoes to the sale.  Shoes that show any signs of wear just do not sell. (Always ask yourself – Would I buy these?)
  • We will be displaying shoes in baskets and bins by size and gender. Ziploc bags work best for shoes. Secure packaging tape the top piece of the tag and tape it to the bag.
  • If shoes won't fit in a Ziploc bag, tie or pin laces together, or use rubber bands on loafer type shoes. Pin tag securely to shoes. Tags will be removed at check out, so please remember this as you affix your tags.

Tagging Toys, Books, Videos, Games, Decor Items
  • Please make certain that all pieces of an item are securely fastened together and that your item is complete. You may use packaging tape, Ziploc bags, clear plastic containers, etc., but please make sure that all the items are secure. Attach the tag securely.
  • If the item requires batteries, they must be included.
  • Books, videos, and small items can be placed in Ziploc bags. The bag's contents should be thoroughly described on the tag. Tape the tag to the outside of the bag. Shoppers buy these types of items for gifts and they are more likely to sell if they don’t have tape stuck to them and/or are damaged.
  • Books must not have any torn pages or be written on. They don’t sell.
  • Board games and other games should be taped closed. Remember that people are going to be handling them and sorting through. Secure them tightly!!
  • It helps to tape your Ziploc bags closed with packaging tape. This ensures that all the pieces/parts stay together.
  • Toys that are not packaged correctly will be turned away. Parents bring their children to these sales and we can’t chance the hazards of small pieces.

Tagging Bedding and Window Treatments
  • It is BEST to bring your bedding in a clear bedding bag, like the bedding was purchased in. This allows the shoppers to easily see the bedding without needing to take it out. It also keeps smaller items like pillowcases and bed skirts with the bedding.
  • You can use a big Ziplock bag as well. You can purchase these at Wal-Mart.
  • Neat stacks of bedding can also be bundled together with yarn or ribbons tied in both directions.
  • Window treatments may be folded or hung on a hanger. A photo of them hanging is helpful.

Tagging Large Items
  • On large items, simply tape the tag to the item for easy viewing and removal. If the item includes extra parts, please make note of them in the item's description.

IMPORTANT TAGGING DETAILS
  • Items with no price and/or consignor/seller # cannot be sold and will be donated to the designated charity.
  • Don't forget your consignor number and price. That’s how you get paid!
  • Competitively price your items to sell. What would you pay? Normally 25-30% of retail is a good general figure to go by. We’d rather give you a bigger check than a lot of unsold items. See our Pricing Suggestions Document on our Documents/Form Page. Note: These are only suggestions- YOU set the price!

Extra Selling Tips
  • Make your item look brand new. The more time you take to wash and iron your clothing, the better it will look to a buyer. Also, button all the buttons, zip zippers, tie bows, etc.
  • Grease stains: Use Dawn dishwashing liquid. Rub into the stain and wash as normal. Occasionally it will take treating twice.
  • Yellow stains: Mix about 1/2 cup dishwashing detergent (such as Cascade) with 1/2 cup Clorox 2 (the pink liquid) in about 1-2 gallons of water. Soak the stained item in the mixture for several hours, and then wash as usual. Works for other types of stains as well.
  • Accessories and smaller items sell best as a lot (hair accessories, socks, etc.). Package these items as a group of 3 or more in a clear Ziploc bag.  Be sure to tape or pin a price tag to the bag with description.
